I know what it’s like to start out strong, only for your body to decide it doesn’t want to play by the same rules anymore.

I’ve been lifting weights for more than twenty years, and competing as a lifter and body-builder since 2009. I caught the competition bug BAD and competed in NPC bikini and figure competitions for nine years.

My usual diet and exercise routines simply weren’t cutting it — I couldn’t stop the weight gain, and I didn’t know what to do.

Then, something wild happened: I hit a plateau. My weight gain slowed (and eventually stopped), right around the time that I stopped killing myself in the gym and starving myself with a calorie-restrictive diet. I eased back, and my body thanked me for the break.

Exactly one year (to the week!) after my last show of 2018, I stepped on the scale and saw that my measurements had gone down. “That’s weird,” I thought to myself. “It must be a fluke.” Then, the week after that, the scale had dropped even further!

What was going on here?!
